Searchandise Commerce and Endeca Technologies Partner to Bring Next Generation Searchandising Solutions to Retailers
Combined Technologies Will Allow Retailers to Generate Additional Revenue Online
Beverly, Mass. and Cambridge, Mass. – December 10, 2008 – Searchandise Commerce, the first eCommerce ad network for product manufacturers and their retailers, and Endeca Technologies, Inc., a search and information access software company, today announced a partnership that will enable retailers to integrate Searchandise Commerce manufacturer-sponsored bid feeds with Endeca’s Online Retail solution. As a result, online retailers will be able to generate new revenue streams through the use of manufacturer-sponsored merchandising zones, thereby creating new ways to monetize on-site search.
“In addition to the obvious online sales influenced by product search, a staggering 87 percent of consumers start their product searches online prior to an in-store purchase,” said John Federman, president and CEO, Searchandise Commerce. “Nearly every retailer with which we’ve engaged that is using Endeca’s solution understands our shared philosophy of bringing the brick and mortar experience to the Web. The opportunity to monetize the search process for retailers was an untapped market and our partnership was a logical conclusion.”
The partnership is representative of a larger trend in eCommerce as retailers adopt increasingly sophisticated strategies for alternative revenue streams through sponsored and ad-based revenue channels. Endeca’s software will be able to pull Searchandise Commerce’s bids into its Merchandising Workbench to manage bids in the same way that the console manages rules for SEO/SEM, margin, inventory, popularity and landing page creation.
“Over the past couple of years, our most innovative retail clients have approached us with input on how to create dynamic merchandising zones and promotions as a means of driving new sponsorship-based revenue,” said Jesse Goldman, Endeca’s global lead, retail. “This partnership will represent a turn-key option to make this kind of revenue stream available to a wide range of retailers through the merchandising tools they already use to drive their customer experience and dynamic merchandising strategies.”
Endeca’s Online Retail solution, used by more than 200 retailers, including more than 40 of the top 100 online retailers, is designed to deliver the most profitable sales possible through a comprehensive set of integrated capabilities, best practices and management tools. It is the premier commerce search, Guided Navigation and merchandising solution on the market.
The companies’ first joint engagement is set to go live in the next few weeks with a top ten consumer electronics retailer.
